Christmas: They returned by other route.

Wise Men visited the King. (Mt 2, 1-12)

This design is inspired in the adoration of the Wise Men to Baby Jesus in Bethelem, which is one of the great moments of all Christmas, especially for those of us who live with young children.

This Gospel passage anticipates us the universality of God’s salvation, but it also contains three elements that can help us in our life:

• The wise men came out of the comfort of their land and followed a special star. They did it voluntarily and followed the star together.
• The wise men met Herod, who tried to manipulate them. This encounter with the «evil of the world» shows that any route is free of obstacles and that there are many elements that can lead us away from God’s path.
• The wise men found the child and recognize him as the Son of God made man and gifted him gold, incense and myrrh.

The design collects these three gifts from the wise men to the Lord which also want to be our offering to Him today:

• A golden nugget, shaped similarly to Saint Joseph, which symbolizes all our material gifts, those elements for which we work every day and which, in some way, allow us to get our daily bread.
• A little incense, already on fire, to worship Jesus as the son of God (with the tray, as a manger, in «divine» red). This incense represents our spiritual dimension and collects the prayers that we want to offer to the Lord at this time.
• Finally, a piece of solid myrrh, shapped like the Virgin Mary (in a blue «human» and Marian color), already prepared to anoint, which symbolizes our human dimension. That dimension brings us closer to our beloved, allows us to empathize with others looking them with the tenderness of a mother.

This design collects those three gifts that we want to give to God this Christmas, put them at his feet and have a clear intention for the rest of the year that begins shortly: «return by other route» because after worshiping the Child Jesus we can not be the same. It happen this way to the Wise Men…but also to Mary and Joseph, that they had to return by Egipt!!

Perhaps we will not be not radically different afther this Christmas, but let’s ask God to help us to indeed become a little more generous, a little more «prayers» and a little closer to our neighbours …
