And He lived with (as) us.
When Joseph and Mary came back from Egypt, they installed again in Nazareth where Jesus spent almost thirty years more living and growing in the daily live of a normal family. In this family, He learned the craftmanship from his father and he lived together with his parents.
Joseph and Mary, that had already experienced the glory from God are now living an ordinary life with Jesus for almost thirty years just loving him, educating him, correcting him… forging somehow its human personality. Probably there, Jesus would observed how his mother worked hard at home, how this father worked in the carpentry and how they would go together to the synagogue to listen the Word of Yahveh.
Nazareth house was a humble home which family life was founded in three pillars: the love, the work and the prayer. This is the most beautiful advise to find God in the daily life. In Nazareth there are hundreds of lessons worth to look in detail. For that, you can read the book “con la Sagrada Familia” from the Brother Francisco Cabrerizo, Hermano de la Sagrada Familia (that you can find here)
I have to thanks my parent because they built a small Nazareth at home when I was a child, where love never lacked between them and they were always available for my brother and me; work never lacked for them (in fact both worked outside home until they got retired some years ago) and prayer never lacked on Sundays at our local church. Today, my wife and myself, with our two children, are trying to keep these three pillar as basis of our daily life too. I wish these three pillars (love, work and prayer) would also sustain most families today…
The design that aims to capture the essence of this period of Jesus in Nazareth is a simple three-leg-wooden stool from Nazareth carprentry. This humble furniture is design for resting and it has three legs so it will never hobble… that is the reason why it represents so properly what the Lord lived with his parent in Nazareth.
As in other ocassions, there are two posible sentences in the design:
- And he went down with them to Nazareth» (Lc, 2,51) This sentence implies the acceptance of the Lord of the rules of his parents but also on its mission among us. He could have stayed further in the temple but he went down home with his parent.
- And he was increasing in years and in grace” (Lc 2, 52) This sentence summarizes around 20 years in the life of Jesus in Nazareth. A sentence that questions ourselves: how do you want to get older? Only in height and ages?.. or also in grace before God?
